Be the best at what you choose to be

This is something very personnel to me that I have told only a few people since it occurred a few years ago.
Four years ago my Dad passed away due to lung cancer and for anyone who has experienced this will know of the helpless feeling that engulfs you each day. It is hard to explain how it really feels.
His cancer was terminal, the fact that no matter what I did or said nothing could change what would happen.
Seeing someone you grew up with,  looked up to grow frail in such a short amount of time so they barely look like the person you knew for all those years. It surreal, like a bad dream it is hard to comprehend it’s real.
It was during this time while at my fathers hospital bed that he said something that has stuck with me since, he wasn’t thinking about his life but his families. He said ‘be the best at what you choose to be’

He was influential in my life he gave me opportunities he never had and pushed me to better myself, when you’re a kid you don’t realise some of these things. As you grow older it makes a lot of sense. He pushed my creative side each day, from a young age I saw things a little differently. I saw what could be done instead of what couldn’t.

In this world we live in there are many mixed messages on what you can and can’t achieve and I am writing this to possibly help anyone that reads this and feels this way. I live with the notion of being the best at what I choose to be, because my father believed in me. All it takes is a little belief be it in yourself from a friend  or anyone, if you believe in yourself you’re half way there.

People might see it as arrogance wanting to be the best at what you do but I don’t see it that way, I see it you are pushing to better yourself in one way or another and really what is bad about that? If you have the skill and desire for your chosen path you can achieve it no matter what obstacles are in your way.

Life is tough in one way or another, it is about over coming adversity and it can be hard no one ever said it would be easy. Just keep going and don’t give up on yourself.

Batman: Arkham City issue 1 Review

The Arkham City comic is set to bridge the gap between the events of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The first issue I won’t be going into too much detail about some of the events so not to spoil anything. So if you are afraid of any spoilers you can rest assured this is safe reading.

Issues one starts where Arkham City ended with Batman taking care of the Titan enhanced Joker who is swiftly returned back to  his cell in Arkham. With his return rumours quickly circular late on what state the Joker is in after his use off the Titan formula. Leaving a huge question mark on what will happen later in this five issue series as well as what condition will he be in at the start of Arkhan City, more so what will he be like at the end of Arkham City.

Looking Ahead

I wanted to a get a blog up over the weekend that would be a little bit more substantial than an update post but I wasn’t sure what other way I can do it.
Therefore, I wanted to cover a few things in future of this blog with a running theme that is just something a little fun for me. I’ll be putting up some comic related content consisting of, reviews top tens and how to get into comics.

I’ve wanted to do reviews for awhile now but I didn’t feel like I could do them justice considering I have only been reading comics for a couple of years and it is mainly over the last year I have been reading work from a larger spread of writers. This really puts into perspective good writing from bad writing especially characters where some writers have a very good grasp over a character and it shines through.
A prime example is Paul Dini’s work on Batman, he knows the character inside and out and his writing feels natural and more so the way he writes a character it is very faithful to how that character should act and speak it is a very fine art to get right.

These reviews and tops tens and such will be going up over the next month or so.

On the gaming front E3 is just around the corner and I’m excited to see what comes out from the big three press conferences especially what Nintendo’s new console will be and what direction they will be taking. It will be also be interesting to see what Microsoft and Sony reveal to compete with the announcement of a new console.

There are also a few games I’m  looking out for including Batman Arkham City which looks great, I hope they reveal some of the additional characters in the game and possibly some gameplay footage.
It’s not a game but I want to see what Microsoft has in store for Kinect this year, currently it is lacking software titles especially games that break away from the casual market. I hope they will be answer this at their press conference.

Along with all this there will be other stuff like some coverage of Duke Nukem Forever and a few gameplay designs looking towards the future. I hope you enjoy the new stuff, if there is you would like me to talk about such as giving my views about something or any faults or feedback they are all welcome.

A little something

It's been awhile since I have done any graphic design stuff with Photoshop and for whatever reason I started messing around with it over the past few minutes to see what I could put together. It is really relaxing just putting something together good or bad you get to be creative, which is something that has been drastically lacking for me over the past few months what with work and other commitments.

It has opened my eyes to what I actually want to do more so than before, purely down to the fact that being without something really gets you thinking how much you actually miss it. For me that is being creative no matter what avenue it may be, writing, art or game design it's just what I do, without it I feel a little empty.

Enough with the revalations and onto what I actually did, it is just a simple signature it is far from being my best work but it is decent for a few minutes on Photoshop.
I'm hoping in the coming weeks and months I'll have more of a chance to be posting up some stuff I will be working on. I've got a bunch of ideas and concepts for videos short films and game designs that I want to put into practice in some shape or form and I'm really looking forward to producing them.

Is this the Modern Warfare 3 Box Art ?

Possibly MW3 box art?
For a while now Modern Warfare 3 has been surround by rumour and speculation on whether it would even release this year considering the implosion of Infinity Ward last year.
Within a recent Playstation Magazine there was an add which featured a green three with something along the lines of ‘the biggest game in the world is back’. It seems obvious it would be Modern Warfare 3 considering E3 is just around the corner.

Upon this new information a logo and a box art has been leaked, these could just be coincidence or a fake but both sets of images look genuine and follow in the footsteps of the previous games. We have seen a Call of Duty game each year without fail, it seems likely 2011 will be Modern Warfare 3. As for the box art and logo they could be the real thing, it would not be the first time this kind of thing has been leaked this early but judge for yourselves on whether this is the real deal.

The Darkness 2 Teaser

Darkness Returns Oct 4th
A new teaser trailer has hit for the Darkness 2 which really doesn’t give much indication on the game or what direction it will be taking, it is basically a few glimpses at some of the events that went down in the first game. There are some things that can be taken from teaser like the tone of the first game is still intact as well as Kirk Acevedo reprising his role as Jackie Estacado. Ok scratch that about the voice actor returning Jackie will infact be voiced by Nolan North and as far as I'm concered from the teaser I thought it was the original actor without a doubt. With that in mind I have no problem with his contribution to the game.

The game is set for an October 4th release in the US and the 7th in Europe, missing out on the holiday releases which I see as a good things considering we may see another Call of Duty this year and we all know genrates monster sales in the holiday season.

What's next for first person shooters?

Modern Military Shooters
Since Call of Duty 4 changed up the first person genre in the way it handled multiplayer and the perk system it introduced the genre. Following along on the success of Call of Duty 4 this was further reinforced by Modern Warfare 2 which was a great game but since then most FPS game have been following in the footsteps, or more so in the shadows. Playing it safe with the same kind of package but with a new coat of paint.
