Batman: Arkham City issue 1 Review

The Arkham City comic is set to bridge the gap between the events of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The first issue I won’t be going into too much detail about some of the events so not to spoil anything. So if you are afraid of any spoilers you can rest assured this is safe reading.

Issues one starts where Arkham City ended with Batman taking care of the Titan enhanced Joker who is swiftly returned back to  his cell in Arkham. With his return rumours quickly circular late on what state the Joker is in after his use off the Titan formula. Leaving a huge question mark on what will happen later in this five issue series as well as what condition will he be in at the start of Arkhan City, more so what will he be like at the end of Arkham City.

The rest of the comic deals with events surrounding Quincey Sharp who is now proposing the creation of Arkham City, there are a few hints at someone pulling the strings behind the scnes, this  may seem obvious to some but I’ll leave it out for now. I’ll say it is an interesting development which plays into both characters.

Another thing that is happening is that two individuals have gotten hold of the Titan Formula and are actively using it on the streets  of Gotham, obviously this pisses off Batman who is now hunting them down along with whoever provided them with Titan.

That is all I’m going to say for now about the plot I don’t like giving too much away in a review because when it comes to reading the comic it takes away some of the impact the story has, and well you don’t have to bleed the story dry to tell someone if it is good or not.

So should you pick this up? Well if you enjoyed Arkham Asylum and you are interested in Arkham City I would say without a doubt pick it up. The writing is solid, I expected nothing less from Paul Dini, he is approaching Arkham City from a new interesting angle which leaves enough intrigue to warrant picking up future issues, I believe reading this then going into Arkham City it will provide a richer experience.

The artwork is nice, it features the same style as the concept pieces in Arkham Asylum,  generally it works well I have no complaints about it.

Overall issue one is a nice starting off point which looks to build a solid prologue that will genuinely add to the story of Arkham City, best of all Paul Dini is writing this comic series and he is handling the story for the game which should guarantee smooth continuity between the comic and the game without anything getting lost in translation if they were to have another writer to do the comic.

Look out for reviews of the next 4 issues coming, let me know in the comments below if you will be picking this up, and what do you think of issue 1?
