Justice League #1 Review

After the long wait the new DC Universe is upon us with the first instalment of the new Justice League, does the New 52 hit the ground running or is fail to live up to expectations.

Since the relaunch announcement, speculation has erupted onto what direction the DCU is heading, this led to long time readers to worry about the fate of their favourite characters. People were afraid that the books they had been reading for years would be lost in the wind of change but with recent announcements, DC has tried to lay any of those worries to rest.
If that has yet to convince you then Justice League number #1 should do the job, not only does re introduce staples of the DCU it remains true to the characters while giving it a fresh spin that long time readers will appreciate while retaining the most important factor which is making it accessible for new readers to jump in.

DC Comics Relaunch: Getting Started

Getting started with comics can be a daunting process for someone going into it without much knowledge of the media itself, which is one reason why I am writing this guide is to help people take the first steps into comics. With the DC comics re launch coming this September it is a great time for people to start collecting comics as everything will be start back at #1, so you don’t have to feel worried about reading a backlog of stories to understand what is currently happening.

Late Night Thoughts and Updates

Just wanted to put a little update out there seeing as I have a few posts I'm working and they should be up soon. I wanted to get back on to talking about game design, one of the posts I'm working on focuses on story telling in games, how I see it progressing in the future and what goes towards good story telling. Not so much in the way it is written but the way it is presented.

I'll be continuing my reviews of the Flashpoint series as well as a review for Arkham City # 2, I'm enjoying writing about comics a lot so I'm considering doing some stuff leading into the DC revamp coming in September to possibly help out new readers. I started collecting around three years ago but recently started collecting the single issues over the collected trades so my experience of getting into comics and the useful places I have found to get a good insight into it might be useful for new readers if it is all in one place. Actually while writing this the idea is sounds pretty good to me.
Getting into comics can seem a little daunting at first especially where to start, though this will be easy for new readers come September with DC launching number ones of 52 titles so everyone can jump in at the same point.

Oh and I forgot to mention I will be covering two games next week Duke Nukem Forever and the Green  Lantern game which were both released last week. Unfortunately I am still waiting for them to arrive, hopefully they will arrive on Monday so I can start putting some coverage up, really interested to see how the Green Lantern game turns out. I don't expect too much considering it's a movie based game so wait and see.

DC Flashpoint June 1st

DC is rebooting it universe which means come September a whole new set #1 will be released. With this in mind I will be moving on to the single issue comics over the trades because it seems like the perfect time to do so  for a number of reasons. One collecting trades, your are always behind and with what is currently happening so news is frequently coming out about anything major that occurs so it is hard to avoid hearing about it. I also like the fact of having a continuing story arc to constantly read rather than waiting for the next trade to be collected and released.

I’ve plunged into Flashpoint as sort of a test run to see how I like collecting the single issues over the trades and so far I’m enjoying it, one positive I find is the gap between issues really lets things sink in to what has happened and what will happen in future issues. Below I've given short reviews on the issues I've picked up and two of the Flashpoint tie ins.

Four Minutes of Green Lantern

This is a Youtube rip of footage that Warner Brothers has recently put up at Apple Trailers. The first Green Lantern trailer was released sometime ago now and It looked pretty good nothing amazing but good. This was also before I started reading the Green Lantern series.
Now with the four minutes of footage released we can judge it a little better. So what do I think…I’m hyped I had low expectations for the movie but those expectations have certainly increased after seeing this, it seems to be staying very true to the source material and it generally looks awesome I am literally shocked at the quality. For me June 17th seems a long way away after watching it.

The video is embedded above so you can decided for yourself, now if you like it spread the word because I believe the movie deserves some more attention based off this new glimpse at the film.

What I have been reading recently

2011 has really been a surge for me so far in terms of reading. There has been a lot of great stuff I’ve read over the past few months, and a few writers which stick out to me.
I’ve grown to love Geoff Johns work as a writer he has a knack of writing characters in such a natural fluid way that they feel tangible. I first came across his work with Superman: Secret Origins. Which is a great book I enjoyed it a lot he really nailed the characters and made them believable. From there I wanted to read some more of his work which brought me to Superman Brainiac which is one of my favourite books at the moment. The story isn’t very long but it is packed with content and it is just a really fun story to read the way the confrontations are handled just has that epic feel. He has a knack of writing things in a way that are very subtle which just adds to the depth of the story and characters.
