Flashpoint August 3rd Reviews

Flashpoint
Issue 4 cover
This is the forth issue and it stills feels like we are not where the story should be at this point, I say this because going into issue five later this month there is an awful lot to cover in one issue it may come off as feeling rushed.

Issue four has a lot going for it there is a much greater feeling of urgency and impending danger than previous issues. A team is now being assembled with the Shazam family and Barry Allen knowing they can not sit on the side lines while the world is torn apart by Wonder Woman and Emperor Aquaman and the fact Barry is losing his memories even quicker now so all this sets things sets the pace of the story.
The introduction of Captain Marvel was handled well with a nice twist to the mythos I guess my only complaint would be there isn’t enough of Captain Marvel within this issue but saying that his actions do make up for it.

Overall the majority of this issue feels like you are riding a rollercoaster climbing up to a peak building all this momentum for the finale and just when you are at the peak about to look down the issue ends which makes it seem issue five will be quite the ride.

Knight of Vengeance
Issue 3, cover
The concluding issue of Knight of Vengeance pays off with a final hard-hitting emotional issue that sees Thomas Wayne tackling his past face on.

Knight of Vengeance starts up right where the previous issue left off, through this issue many of the scenes will leave you looking at the page taking everything in even when few words are spoken the imagery speaks volumes.
I loved the confrontation between Martha and Thomas Wayne which takes place in the present and through flash backs to the day Bruce was shot in the alley. Seeing them in that alley, with Bruce dying in Thomas’s arms goes beyond this issue as we have seen the potential Bruce has within him so seeing that slip away is something else. Bruce’s death leaves Martha broken, and seeing her spiral down into madness is done well with some subtle notions being used further in.

I love this version of Batman and the world in which he in habits, although it was only a three issue arc it is very rich and diverse and leaves you guessing where exactly the story will go. Brian Azzarello has done a fantastic job on this mini series, with only a few issues left till the finale Knight of Vengeance stands to be the true gem in Flashpoint.

World of Flashpoint #3

World of Flashpoint
Issue 3 cover
Everything built up falls into place and delivers a solid conclusion but the final few pages felt really out of place given what is happening in other places.

While World of Flashpoint has been solid through the first two issues with hints to something greater on the horizon that could possibly affect the greater Flashpoint picture it seems that it just wasn’t possible or never intended which makes World of Flashpoint’s overall story arc shallow as it weaves through the core Flashpoint storyline line linking directly into issue’s four but it seems so disconnected, none of the main Flashpoint cast pay any attention to these characters like they are not even there.
Added to that the ending which wraps things up too perfectly for the two main characters which leaves things in a weird position where they act like everything is fine even though there is still a huge war occurring.

Taken as a whole there series felt it was leading to something special but the results leaves the reader disappointed. The issue is by no means bad, it features some great moments but do not expect much of a meaningful conclusion to the series.

Deathstroke Review will be posted shortly.
